HUMANISM IS A TIME HONORED PRINCIPLE espoused by the Social democrats like the PDP-LABAN of Sen. Nene Pimentel and the Centrist Democratic Party of Congressman Rodriguez. The concept has nothing to do with the intent to implement the law in the case of the Operation Hapsay Dalan but by the haste by which it was implemented. I am posting this for the record in order for the public and our friends who volunteered to the Task Force to realize that we are not in any way against the intent of cleaning up the streets because we all do. This is part of the column of Atty. Mariano Carassco in a Column at Gold Star Daily Oca Moreno assumed office the day he took his oath on June 30, 2013. Only then could he make official moves as mayor. The next day, July 1, he immediately cleared the Cogon market streets of vendors. Has he or his subalterns held meetings with them or at least informed them about this move so they could make adjustments on their lives and livelihood, even for just a few days? The vendors depend on their business for daily sustenance, for the baon of their kids, etcetera. Their livelihood is not nuisance per se and not even a crime like drug trafficking or jueteng, though the vendors should really be removed from the streets for congesting the traffic. Has City Hall informed them about alternative plans for them? Are plans being undertaken to relocate them inside the public market building, the proper place for them? As to the Taiwanese lease contract which was attacked during the campaign, are there now real plans to have them cancelled?
