Had a moment yesterday while taking a drive with Ian Bassett and listening to the Awesome Mix from the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack that took me back in time to something long forgotten back in 1974-ish when I was 13-ish. It was summer in Yakima, staying two weeks with my Aunt Leslie, Uncle Fred and Cousins Victoria Porter and Jennifer Porter Wheeler. Aunt Leslie and us girls were driving somewhere when this song came on the radio and Aunt Leslie quickly changed the station declaring the song an atrocity declaring the original by BJ Thomas being the one and only version of the song that deserved airplay in this world or anywhere the galaxy (Okay, exaggerated that last part but provides a good segue to the song itself...) When she saw the disappointment on my face she switched the radio back and gamely tried to look like she was not fighting putting her hands over her ears and begging for mercy. A great sport indeed, though did ultimately admit her sister, my Aunt Zoe, loved the song!
