Had a quiet Kuttanad fish curry lunch with Nirmala at Achayans - TopicsExpress

Had a quiet Kuttanad fish curry lunch with Nirmala at Achayans Kitchen, a first floor resataurant tucked away on Kochar Road , Sasthamangalam . The new eatery that opened last month is easy to locate .Its near the well known New Alakapuri Auditorium. They serve tuna curry with the regular Thali meals .But we ordered an extra plate of Vaaral/Braal/Kannan curry .Its a while since I had started missing my childhood fresh water favorite Braal. So basically went to Achayans for the snakehead so hard to find in Trivandrum menu. And as always & as in all that matters, the recommendation by our intimate family friends Saritha & Shaji did not fail us .The meal was delicious .And the Braal curry was icing on the cake.Thank u divine couple . The secret of Achayans snakehead serving is that they get Keralas very own river / backwater / pond food fish fresh every day from Aleppy or Changanassery .Thats authentic Achayans for you .Not the no more fancy sign board to cheat the naive non Achayan Malayalis . But as you might already know there is a cost to be paid to taste any original in a capitalist society. So withl Achayans thick saucy spiced Vaaral curry .It cost us a huge Rs 400/-.But to be fair your Kannan comes king size .A full 8 inches in length. And.all the way every morning from Alleppy for your princely pallete at the Achayans Kitchen next door Only poor me like most of you will not be able to have it every other day . But do try once in a blue moon. And that reminds me , its Karkidaka Vavu today .Indeed a blue moon day that brings even the dead back to earth.
