Had a reader leave the following comment regarding the Obama approved U.S. Military change in uniform code to allow beards and turbans as appropriate military dress. Muslims never wear turbans, only Sikhs do. This is patently not true. I would urge anyone who holds such a belief to make a very quick check of the facts. Muslims wear turbans, it is sometimes called confirmed tradition and is based on the belief that Muhammad himself wore a white turban. And yes, Sikhs, who also wear turbans, have a history of being an honorable and peace loving people, but the change in military policy has NOTHING to do with Sikhs, though the administration will use them to sell it to the public. There are only THREE active duty Sikhs currently in the U.S. military. There are nearly FOUR THOUSAND active duty Muslims. And, the murdering Muslim of Fort Hood, an Army Major, has in recent months demanded he be allowed to grow his beard for religious reasons. And NOW, the Obama administration is allowing beards and turbans as appropriate military dress? This is not a Sikh issue, it is a Muslim issue - and a dangerous, unwise precedent at this time in our war on terrorism. We are literally opening ourselves to their intended deadly deceptions...
