Had the honor and privilege a while ago to spent an hour in the company of a true American, Robert Arn. He is a great story teller and an inspiration. He has been informed that he will receive the Congressional Gold Medal in the next few months. (He quipped they might want to hurry up, its been 70 years and hes already in his 90s.....) Mr. Arn is a 92 yr old WWII pilot who is type rated in 32 different military aircraft from that time (31 piston & 1 jet) and who, among other achievements, flew an incredible 106 missions over the Hump supplying the infamous Flying Tigers and other U.S. & allied forces. His photo collection is 2nd only to his story telling and incredibly sharp memory! He said when he met Clare Chenault commander of the Flying Tigers and later the 14th Air Force, they would meet when Chenault was destitute for items and wanted to know what Arn had on the plane. Robert liked Chenault because he was rough and tough and mean on codger, but he never asked anything impossible from his men! See: the USAF Museum in Dayton has a display about his record and personal C-56 #569 mywarhistory/browse/browse.aspx?serviceHeroId=22 thisweeknews/content/stories/westerville/news/2014/06/17/from-congress-to-state-street-honors-arrive-70-years-later-for-arn.html
