Hamed Ghaednia, a doctoral student in mechanical engineering, received the platinum level best poster award at the 68th annual Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, STLE, annual conference. His research, "The Effect of Nanoparticle Additives in the Elasto-hydrodynamic Lubrication Regime," focuses on nano-size particles, which are small enough to infiltrate the gaps between surfaces in contact and alter key tribological characteristics. Ghaednia is working to understand the effect of particles on friction and wear, while studying the interaction of particles with surfaces under high pressure. STLE includes more than 10,000 individuals and 150 companies and organizations in the tribology and lubrication engineering sector.
