Hangleton is pretty well served by buses on the whole. The 5s - TopicsExpress

Hangleton is pretty well served by buses on the whole. The 5s (5,5a and 5b) can be caught every few minutes from the Grenadier during the day. However there is one part of Hangleton which is virtually bus less. Hangleton Valley Drive (HVD) and the roads off it are missed out by all the 5s - the only bus they see is run by Compass which is only hourly even at peak times. There were probably historical reasons for this. The houses and bungalows in HVD all have drives and garages, and in the past virtually all the residents had at least 1 car. This though is very much an ageing population and many residents are now of an age where they can no longer drive. Canvassing by Tony Janio, Dawn Barnett and Nick Lewry (the Conservative councillors and candidates in Hangleton and Knoll) suggests there is now significant demand for a regular bus service along HVD. We have been in contact with Brighton and Hove Buses who are looking at what they can do. Tomorrow we also hope to involve Brighton and Hove Buswatch. I have been invited to their monthly meeting with the local bus companies. Looking on google maps the issue is clear. Those that can walk easily probably make their way to Hangleton Way to catch the 5b. Id like to see an extra loop on one of the 5s to take in HVD. If that is not possible, another idea at a low cost could be to re-route the 66 along HVD which would double the frequency and provide a new link to Sainsbury. I do not want to get peoples hopes up but we will give it a go and see if the already good service in Hangleton can be extended to those parts which currently miss out.
