Hannah update day 39: Today was a long day! After leaving my boys at a friends house at 6:30am (so they could take them to school), I took Hannah for an 8am appointment across town at the Alberta childrens Hospital. We were at the hospital for 6 1/2hours! Firstly Hannah went to cardiology clinic where she had a ultrasound and ECG. We met with the cardiologist and had a good report of how Hannahs heart is looking really good and she is not showing any signs of heart failure and her valves do not appear to be leaking. She is a good color, has good oxygen levels and with her weight gain ; she is on the right track to a successful surgical repair of her AVSD. Next month when we come back, the cardiologist will prepare to present Hannah (via conference) to the surgeons in Edmonton and a date for surgery will be set. But overall the cardiologist was really impressed with how well Hannah is doing! And of course we all agree - shes just great! Then we went to the child development center to meet the occupational therapist and dietician to help problem solve strategies to help Hannah eat more effectively (I.e: expiring less energy to feed and get her maximum calories for weight gain, also we addressed latching and positioning issues due to low tone in her cheeks, jaw, and neck). I think after all the appointments this week I have a few more strategies to help Hannah grow and thrive. We rejoice that she continues to exceed expectations.
