Happy 23rd anniversary to my wonderful husband, Mike. It has been fun! To celebrate, I’ve come up with some facts that maybe not everyone knows (there’s been a lot of status’ lately of this type of thing). 1.) We met at work. Twice, before we were a couple, I was Mike’s boss. He teases that he made the position permanent. 2.) If I remember dates correctly, we were friends for 5 years before we became involved. I recommend being friends as a great way to start a relationship. 3.) We spent 6 months in Germany (for work) right before we got married. There was no television. We played music, played with the train set, worked puzzles, and spent a lot of time discussing our future. Every weekend that we could get away from work, we spent touring – Venice, Paris, Holland, Switzerland, etc. It was a magical time. 4.) Mike wanted 4 children, I wanted 2. 5.) I miscarried between Jimmy and Louis. I wasn’t very far along, but it was an upsetting time and I worried about losing Louis most of the pregnancy – especially when the contractions started at 5 months. 6.) My cravings with Jimmy were grapes, apple juice, and Slurpees. My cravings with Louis were bean burritos and tuna. After Louis was born, I couldn’t eat tuna anymore. Mike never went out in the middle of the night for my cravings, but he did a lot of grocery shopping and took many, many trips to Taco Bell for me. 7.) Mike is a great dad and husband. 8.) We moved to the valley to get away from the city/traffic, to find a better place to bring up the children, and because Jimmy and my allergies weren’t so bad when we went north. We were thrilled when the same company wanted to hire both Mike and I (we have worked together through 3 companies - lots more if you count all the mergers and name changes - and about 29 years). 9.) When I got sick in 2006 (vestibular migraines), I could not have asked for better support from my wonderful husband. He was always there for me, always putting up with me, and he never let me give up. While I am tons better than I was, I am still not where I would like to be, and I can always rely on an arm to help steady me, an order to go to bed when I’m having an exceptionally bad day, an encouraging word, a chauffeur when I need one, and a shoulder to rest on. 10.) My sons are there for me too. They drive me around, offer me an arm, carry stuff for me, are aware of situations where I may need help, don’t freak out when I have my occasional breakdowns, etc. I can be a pain, and I so appreciate the support and love. 11.) We do a lot as a family. Scouts, camping, skiing, scuba diving, etc. We enjoy each other’s company. With the boys in college it takes more coordination and I’m sure it will become even more difficult as they go in their own directions. We have had time for one on one with our children though as well. Mike and Jimmy started off in Scouts together. Louis and I joined 2 years later, but we had our Den and they had theirs. Louis and Mike started the scuba diving classes together; Jimmy and I started our classes about 6 months later. 12.) Life has been good. There have been trials, as in any life, but the majority of the memories are great ones. 13.) Mike and I had children fairly soon after marrying. I love my children and am not in a hurry for them to grow up and separate from us, but I also look forward to Mike and I being empty nesters and enjoying that phase of our life as well. With Mike, life is an adventure and I don’t see us slowing down.
