Happy Birthday Gwen McCrae (born December 21, 1943, Pensacola, Florida, United States). She is known as the Rare Groove Queen. She was once married to George Rock Your Baby McCrae. she started recording as a duo with her husband George, and was first to receive a solo recording contract, with Henry Stones TK Records, plus was first discovered by, Betty Wright. She found success on the U.S. R&B charts with her cover version of Bobby Blands Lead Me On in 1970, followed by For Your Love. Following her husband George’s unexpected solo success with Rock Your Baby, Gwen went on to have a major hit of her own in 1975 with Rockin Chair, a US #1 R&B/Soul hit which also reached #9 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The follow-up Love Insurance also made the R&B/Soul chart at #16. She traveled to the UK to record a couple of singles for Rhythm King in 1987 & became very popular with the Soul underground Dance scene & became known as, The Rare Groove Queen. Songs like, All This Love That Im Giving, 99 per cent of me. She had a good run of Disco/ Soul Funky hits with, Funky Sensation, Keep The Fire Burning, Doin it plus others. On June 03, 2012, the Legendary Grammy Nominee, singer suffered a massive stroke, while touring in England & was stuck without the funds to get home, we brought awareness to this, via the Disco, Soul, Gold page with a special HELP flyer & luckily loads of people came to her aid & raised the money to get her home. I am told she is still recovering & we would like to wish her a Happy Birthday & continued greatness with her recovery. GARY
