Happy Birthday, Julie Spangler! Julie is a Rock Star pianist that I first met a few years before I headed off to college. Shes part of that select society of versatile Piano/Conductor/Music Directors that Ive referenced a handful of times in previous #BirthdayQuest themes. She and I are both from a long line of pianists who played for a prominent performing group at IU, and the director that we both got to play for was an important musical influence. The start of Julies pro career is the perfect Showbiz story...I go into some of the details in the vid, but the summary is this: girl works hard, girl gets opportunity, girl knocks opportunity out of the park, girl gets job! Shes a fixture of the Cincy Music Theater and popular music scene, and we got the chance to work together several times (especially during the summer.) Fun fact: her family is behind some of the most delicious lollipops on the planet (and I have consumed a substantial number of them in my lifetime!) For Julies #BirthdayQuest theme, I quote three different tunes that we are both well-connected to. The first quote is the first three chords that you hear- those chords will be instantly recognizable to any veteran of that IU performing group. Quote #2 comes next, taken from one of the last tunes that Julie & I performed together. Quote #3 comes from an arrangement that Julie did for this performing group, and is an arrangement I played on many occasions.
