Happy Birthday to original Saturday Night Live cast member Dan Aykroyd, who was born on this day in 1952 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He gained fame on the American late-night comedy show where he was a writer and the youngest cast member for its first four seasons. He was known for his impersonations of celebrities like Jimmy Carter, Vincent Price and Richard Nixon, and for his recurring roles of Beldar, father of the Coneheads and Yortuk Festrunk, one of the Two Wild and Crazy Guys. After leaving Saturday Night Live in 1979, Aykroyd enjoyed a wave of success as an actor and a screenwriter. He co-starred with Eddie Murphy in the 1983 hit comedy ‘Trading Places’. The following year he acted and co-wrote the script for the humorous supernatural blockbuster ‘Ghostbusters’, which also had a 1989 sequel. In 1989, he took on more serious fare with a supporting role in the drama Driving Miss Daisy, where he received an Academy Award nomination for his work in the Jessica Tandy-Morgan Freeman film.
