Happy Birthday today (Jan. 9) to Jimmy Page, one of rocks most influential & celebrated guitarists as a crack 60s sessioneer & as a member of The Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin, The Honeydrippers & The Firm; as a record producer, songwriter & guitarist, he helped make Led Zeppelin a prototype for countless future rock bands & was one of the major driving forces behind the rock sound of that era; Rolling Stone described him as the pontiff of power riffing & probably the most digitally sampled artist today after James Brown; he was ranked #2 in Gibson Guitars Top 50 Guitarists of All Time, #4 on Classic Rock Magazines 100 Wildest Guitar Heroes, & third in Rolling Stones 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time; Jimmy has been inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame twice, as a member of The Yardbirds (1992) & Led Zeppelin (1995); he was the first inductee onto the British Walk of Fame in 2004 & was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Surrey for his services to the music industry in 2008; the 2008 film It Might Get Loud helped to frame his work in a contemporary context…
