Happy Labour Day! Let us all take time today to reflect on the vital importance of workers to our nation. Our society, and economy, could not function without the dedication, talent and creativity of all those who contribute their hands, backs and minds to their workplaces each day. Let us also celebrate the contributions of unions and labour organizations who serve to advance the interests of working men and women and remind us that an intelligent and just society ensures that its workers work in safe, decent and rewarding environments. I want to send a special note of appreciation and support to all those workers - teachers, IKEA workers, and others - who are being treated disrespectfully by their employers today. I support your quest for justice, respect your sacrifice and applaud your courage. The best countries in the world have strong governments, strong business sectors and strong labour policies. Lets dedicate ourselves to building Canada in this ideal.
