Happy Monday!! Yoga and Pilates are the kinds of exercises that not many people actually enjoy doing. They are very slow and controlled and most people get bored doing them. I can tell you though from experience that they are both crucial to your success long term. Especially Yoga. Yes hardly anyone enjoys doing it but if you are exercising and working your muscles hard they need it to get stretched back out. Your muscles will recover faster and grow quicker if you allow them to be stretched out. It’s important though that you don’t bounce in your poses to try and get that extra bit of stretch. You do however need to push yourself to the point of discomfort. This will allow you to progress each week. When I first started I could not even touch my toes!! I was shy by about 3 inches or so. Now when I am stretched out and warm I can easily reach past my toes by about 6 inches. I have to put a yoga block at the end of my feet in order to get more of a stretch. I have actually been a slacker when it comes to getting my Yoga in lately and I can tell you that it made a difference for me big time. I lost a lot of what I had gained. About a month or so ago I was able to place my head on my knees when in the final stretches of Yoga Fix. But this morning I was at least 6 inches away and quite honestly a little disgusted with myself for making excuses to not do yoga this past month. I am going to fix that problem and make sure that at least once a week Yoga is a part of my day!! I made this video a while back sharing with you some tips on how to increase your flexibility. So if you are struggling with tight muscles and have a hard time touching your toes maybe its time that you look into some form of Yoga or Pilates. Chalene’s new Piyo program is incredible for this. You can increase your flexibility AND melt off the fat in the same workout. youtu.be/hPXGIfqUhr4
