Happy Wednesday! We are excited to announce that 87 companion animals found forever homes and 63 wildlife were released back to their habitats this week. Yahoo! The companion animals include 51 cats, a chicken, 21 dogs, 3 gerbils, 2 parakeets, 7 rabbits, and 2 rats. The wildlife releases include 3 American robins, 2 barn swallows, 2 chipping sparrows, a cliff swallow, a common grackle, 2 eastern cottontail rabbits, 13 eastern gray squirrels, 8 house finches, 6 mallards, 2 northern cardinals, a painted turtle, 6 thirteen-lined ground squirrels, and 16 wood ducks. Most were orphans, but there were a couple abducted with the intent to rescue. To define this term for you, it means any animal that is brought for rehabilitation with the intent of rescue, that has been removed from its natural habitat without warrant due to either i) perceived risk to the animal by the rescuer, ii) disregard or ignorance of the animal’s natural history, or iii) when no attempt or an inappropriate attempt has been made to reunite a young animal with its parents. This term replaces the traditional “kidnapped”. Please contact Four Lakes Wildlife Center with ANY questions / concerns about wildlife! For your adoption success story this week, we bring you Auggie! He arrived at the shelter with some aggressive behaviors towards unfamiliar people. Through the love and support of his new family (including MONTHS of behavior work!), he has blossomed into a social, happy little guy who no longer lunges at strangers on walks. Plus, he goes to work with his Dad frequently! The new family also had this to share about our staff, Thank you for everything you do. What you do is important and it affects animals and people in a significant meaningful way. Auggie is such an important part of my life now. A part that I wouldnt have had, if it werent for you and your staff. Please, pass along my comments to your staff as well. I wish I remembered the names of everyone who helped us. Everyone was so friendly and wonderful. Youve left a strong impression on us that we are happy to share with anyone considering adopting a pet. Thank you for your support, and we are so happy for you and Auggie!
