Hard to believe after all these years this is whats left of a place I once called home. Chanute Air Force Base is where I started school and attended Maplewood Elementary from 1990-1993, which was kindergarten thru third grade. After the base closed, our family moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota. My dad, Bill Hansen, was an instructor at the airbase teaching our future leaders and heros of America! He is my hero! I saw Whitney Houston in 1991, and she was the first of many concerts that Ive had the privilege to lose my control over and act like a wild one, and Ill never forget that night! I learned how to ride my bike, I met my best friend Robert Steiger and grew up with him moving to each missile base as well, I ice skated the winter of my first grade year with my dad on a frozen pond behind my school next to the fenced in putt putt gold course, and the best thing to come from Chanute Air Force Base was when my dad met my step mom, Connie Cravens Hansen. They married at St. Marys September 19, 1992. My brother, Duane Hansen, and sister, Tiffany Hansen, and I were baptized at that same church October 31, 1992. Soooo many memories from this closed down abandoned air force base. How could I forget Shera! Shera was our family pet that I found when I was in first grade lingering outside our babysitters apartment complex! We were blessed with her as our pet up thru my job corps years. May she rest in peace. This video is rather interesting and gives us a great mini history lesson on how important Chanute Air Force Base was once very important to us. God Bless America and his people!
