Harold Edward DeVore is survived by his sister Maudie Hyde of Lyndhurst and brother Harry DeVore of Lyndhurst who both were co-workers. Harold Edward DeVore, 72, of Mill Gap passed away Monday, May 26, 2014 at his home. He was born June 18, 1941 in Staunton a son of the late Raymond Chester and Mary Janet (Coyner) DeVore. Mr. DeVore was a member of Beulah Presbyterian Church and had served in the U.S. Army. He could do many things, among them construction work, which included building greenhouses overseas and working at a dairy. Later in life, he found a new gift in caring for older people. He had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Being a genuine, candid and caring person, he loved life and people and was not afraid to speak his mind. Mr. DeVore is survived by his wife of 25 years, Karen Lowry DeVore; three daughters, Mary Arsenault and husband, George of St. Augustine, FL, Teresa DeVore and Linda Bowman, both of Palatka, FL; his son, Robert DeVore and wife, Jen of Wadsworth, IL; two sisters, Audrey Bonadore of Kenosha, WI and Maudie Hyde of Lyndhurst; two brothers, twin, Harry DeVore and wife, Peggy of Lyndhurst and Ronald DeVore, and wife, Carolyn of Pooler, GA and step-daughter, Tracey McCray and husband, Mike of McDowell;. Also surviving are three grandsons; several nieces and nephews and many loyal friends. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2014 at Beulah Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Melissa Litrel Harmon officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be John Brock, Gary Williams, Vernon Simmons, Glendon Mullens, Glen Mullens, Delmar Vandevander, Herman Puffenbarger, Buddy Hall, Gregg Stump and Mark Mills. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors attending the service. Friends may call at Obaugh Funeral Home on Thursday. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the church service as well as at the home.
