Harpie ...what a guy. Wilson “Harpie” G. Shea, 95, of Hudson died Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at The Firemen’s Home. Born April 2, 1919 in Hudson, NY., he is the son of the late James and Bertha (Baxter) Shea. Harpie married Mary Ann Fallarino in 1945, she predeceased him in 2000. Harpie attended St. Mary’s Catholic School for his entire education and graduated from there in 1937. After graduation he started his employment with V & O Press.Harpie left V&O press to serve in the US Navy, enlisting in 1942 and he was honorably discharged in 1945. Upon returning to Hudson, he went back to V&O working his way up to superintendent, and would go on to work there for 47 years. Harpie was involved in many local organizations and clubs. He was a 74 year member of J.W. Hoysradt Hose and Chemical Company #8 making him the oldest member of the Hudson Fire Department. He served as an usher for 60 plus years at St. Mary’s Catholic Church., and he was a member of Hudson Elks Lodge 787 serving as past state vice president. He was a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus, and he was a high school basketball referee for over 72 years. Other organizations where Harpie gave his time include, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Honored Vets Committee, Hudson Fish and Game Club, Polish Sportsman Club, and Federation of Columbia County Sportsman. He was awarded citizen of the year by the Albany Times Union Newspaper, and awarded the Hudson Rotary Club Citizen of the Year in 2008. Survivors include his niece Mary Pitcher Shea, and his nephew Patrick Shea, both from PA., and his care givers Dan and Rose Shaughnasey, along with hundreds of friends. In addition to his parents, and his wife, he was also predeceased by his brother Patrick, and his companion Gloria Marchionne. A visiting time will be held on Friday (Today) from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Firemen’s Home, 125 Harry Howard Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 am on Saturday, September 27 at St. Mary’s Church, 429 East Allen Street. Hudson. Burial will follow in Cedar Park Cemetery.
