Harry Violet & the Sharks are looking for a drummer! We are a four-piece 50s rock and roll band with sax. We have been playing in London for 6 months, having each played in various 50s bands over the years. We have put together together our first batch of original material were calling dive-bar jive, taking a Bill Haley/Little Richard style and adding elements from the wild horror of Screamin Jay Hawkins, the darkness of Vince Taylor, surf rock and early Psychobilly. Our original sound keeps one foot rooted in traditional rock and roll and rockabilly while hinting at outside influences from the Lounge Lizards, 2-Tone ska and the Birthday Party through to David Lynch and A Clockwork Orange. On stage we are suited, sweaty and energetic and off-stage we are ambitious, with plans to soon self-produce our first recordings and music video. We are looking for someone who: - Lives in London - Wants to be part of an originals band with an emphasis on writing, recording and gigging a primarily originals set, making music videos, with a view to releasing on vinyl. - Can shuffle drums, rockabilly style. - Is interested in releasing music and building a band with its own identity as opposed to being a novelty function act (we have played many paid function gigs – but will be playing unpaid gigs too) - Has own kit and transport (your own space/bedroom/garage that you rehearse drums would be a bonus for recording drum takes) - Can practice once weekly in the Barbican (weeknights, roughly 7pm-8.30pm) - Somewhere around the age range of the band 21-26 - Dresses up for gigs in suits/ties/rockabilly/surf style Listen to a couple of rough sketches of original material here (without the sax lines) for an impression of the sound were going for: https://soundcloud/harryvioletandthesharks We have self-produced recordings and music videos as an example of the production quality we can achieve.
