Harvested a turnip today from a raised garden bed. RCW was applied on the 30 April 2014 so 64 days. Has been slow growing but the size is good and the taste is so sweet. Note the taproot didnt go out forever and that there isnt an over abundance of side roots. The greens on top were less than I thought. I had put a layer of sheep manure and dug some bokashi compost through the bed but have not given them much since. A friend has turnips too in a raise garden bed with no woodchip cover. He has been fussing over his with fertilisers and fungicides. I built that raised bed 4 months ago and it was topped up with a landscape and vegetable soil mix, so was rich to start with. His turnip base is the same size but they have twice the tops. His would be a week younger than mine.
