Hatching Cranes It’s crane season at Freeport-McMoRan Audubon Species Survival Center. Animal experts have their hands full of little chirpers – six Mississippi sandhill crane chicks have hatched out so far this year. The resourceful and imaginative animal staffers have themed this year’s hatchlings around dancing and dance moves, with names like Mambo, Waltz and Dougie. Here’s hoping they all grow big and strong so they can cha-cha their way over to the sandhill crane refuge in Mississippi to strengthen the population in the wild. Photos: Margaret Zuercher
