Have African long term serving leaders performs better, compared - TopicsExpress

Have African long term serving leaders performs better, compared to those that only serve two terms in office? Have they kept the promises? I waked up this morning with those questions in my head and wondering what we all do to ensure that at least people do not overstay, reduces nepotism, corruption, family succession plans, possessing the security institutions, etc. Some of the continent’s long serving leaders include, Theodora Obiang Ngiema of Equatorial Guinea, 34 years in power, Robert Gabriel Mugabe of Zimbabwe, 33 years, Paul Beah of Cameroon, 31 years, Eduardo Santos of Angola, 30 years, Yuweri Musiveni, 27 years etc. What are the trends of development in these countries compare to countries that let go people after 10 max? Ghana, Zambia, Mozambique, Botswana, South Africa etc. Long serving men in North Africa all gone from the Arab spring, Gadhafi spent about 40 years, Mubarak 30, Ben Ali 24. Are sometimes these leaders goes off the track after 10 years in power and personalising the state institutions so that they continue to hang on power? I heard from the BBC news quite recently where in Uganda, not more than 2 people are allowed gather together without obtaining permit from the Commissioner of police. I wondered even if people want to celebrate the birth of child, marriages, graduations, football games, burials, family meetings etc., how easy it will for over 35 million Ugandans depend on person to authorise these functions? Just leave power after 10 years max instead of changing, amending the constitution for their personal reasons or making bills put gazette these awkward.
