Have a cool nice evening jazz lovers and giants! During the noughties, British drummer Dylan Howe (a jazz-loving rocker for much of his career, who has played with the late Ian Dury and the Blockheads, and his guitar-star father Steve Howe) made a series of fine recordings that sounded like old Blue Note bebop sessions, but this subtle, cinematic venture is very different. Seven years in the making, its his personal take on songs from David Bowies 1970s albums. The contemplative, painterly atmosphere is conjured by creative electronics and elegant arrangements deploying two saxes (Brandon Allen and Julian Siegal), but theres plenty of jazz swing too, with Allen and pianist Ross Stanley the principal soloists. A warm tribute to Bowie, but a jazz album too, Subterranean offers plenty to fans from both constituencies. https://youtube/watch?v=xmtEP3yUZ2A
