Have just received the latest newsletter from Alan... posted for your convenience and information... LATE MEMBERS NEWSLETTER RELEASE Dear Members, Sorry, members that this attachment wasn’t included in the latest newsletter that you would have received by email recently but events have only just unfolded, allowing me to bring this news to all our members. As most brumby supporters are aware, the Minister for the Environment, Rob Stokes, Member for Cooma, John Barilaro and the member for Wagga Wagga, Daryl Maguire released, on December 19 a statement saying that aerial cull shooting was ruled out as a wild horse control method in the next Management Plan for KNP. SMBSMG response at first was to recognise the media release but there were factors surrounding the media release that were of concern to us, they being some of the grossly inaccurate statements made at that time and the fact, that I was supposed to have been present at the release when in fact SMBSMG have been marginalised by other members of the so-called brumby advocacy co-alition to the extent that we received no information as to the media release at all. Subsequent to all this bulldust, I spoke at length last Friday with both Daryl Maguire and John Barilaro, the conversation was open, frank and robust to the extent where I can now say that SMBSMG acknowledges the time, effort and hard work dedicated by these two regional Members to all aspects of the snowy brumby’s presence in KNP. SMBSMG pay tribute to both members and look forward to developing relations between our organisation and the Government as we work toward the development of a Draft Plan of Management that recognises our objective. The most important aspect of all of this that SMBSMG were the only Group to engage the community through community interest meetings, we are the Group responsible for 9600 petition signatures and we sponsored the film The Man from Cox’s River in both Jindabyne and Cooma. We are the only Group to take the issue of the snowy brumby up to the Government and NPWS publicly and as a result, as admitted by the regional Members, our agitation and activity led directly to the media release. On behalf of the committee, I thank all our members and brumby supporters, without you this first step in a long, hard road would not have been possible. All SMBSMG members are pleased to see that Alan Nurthern, Committee member is on the mend after a riding accident over the Christmas break. Regards Alan Lanyon & the Committee
