Have you ever noticed that when you have experienced something traumatic in your life (the loss of a loved one, lost job, major surgery, etc.) that the narcissist refuses to ask how youre doing (or even if they do, theyre quick to change the subject when you actually start telling them the state of your emotions), but you have to listen to drawn out poor me stories over every hang nail, split end, and out of place freckle? Narcissists dont actually give a damn about your problems, but every one of theirs is a major event. Another classic sign of their its-all-about-me state of mind. If a situation comes up where they have to give you some attention over a significant situation in your life, they do it grudgingly. You can almost hear the effort it takes for them to force out the faux concern, and if the tone doesnt give away their lack of empathy, the empty eyes will tell all. But hey, go ahead and cry on their shoulder over the passing of your saintly Aunt Marge, but remember, you will owe them BIG the next time they stump their toe on the leg of a coffee table.
