Have you ever wondered what kind of man, Judas Iscariot was? Well we know he loved money, he was the keeper of the money bag for Jesus and His disciples, as they traveled around and people donated money to their ministry. Do you go to church to Worship or Pretend? John 12:3-6 Mary then took a pound of very costly perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. 4 But Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, who was intending to betray Him, said, 5 Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and given to poor people? 6 Now he said this, not because he was concerned about the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he had the money box, he used to pilfer what was put into it. What else do we know about Judas? Well he walked with Jesus and knew about Jesus, he wanted to have his place in the Kingdom of Israel, that Jesus was talking about. So he wanted to be important and as long as things were going well, he had no problem following Jesus. When Jesus was in the upper room, at the last supper and He said that someone would betray him from His group of 12 disciples, none of the other disciples immediately knew it was Judas. So he must have gotten along with them and maybe was even well liked by them. They were convinced that he was just as loyal to Jesus as the Christ, as they were. John 13:10-11 Jesus said to him, He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely (spiritually) clean; and you are clean, but not all of you. 11 For He knew the one who was betraying Him; for this reason He said, Not all of you are (spiritually) clean. And again in John 13:21 When Jesus had said this, He became troubled in spirit, and testified and said, Truly, truly, I say to you, that one of you will betray Me. 22 The disciples began looking at one another, at a loss to know of which one He was speaking. 23 There was reclining on Jesus bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved. 24 So Simon Peter gestured to him, and said to him, Tell us who it is of whom He is speaking. 25 He, leaning back thus on Jesus bosom, said to Him, Lord, who is it? 26 Jesus then answered, That is the one for whom I shall dip the morsel and give it to him. So when He had dipped the morsel, He took and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. 27 After the morsel, Satan then (possessed) entered into him. Therefore Jesus said to him, What you do, do quickly. (a Born Again Believer cannot be possessed by Satan or an Evil Spirit, for greater is He who is within you, than he who is within the world.) The point is this, Judas walked with Jesus and knew Him as a person, just as the other disciples. No one (but Jesus) ever suspected Judas of not being as loyal as they were to the Jesus the Lord. But in his heart, Judas had never come to KNOW the Lord in a personal relationship of love, by faith. Satan’s best tools of Destruction are not from outside the Church; they are within the church. A church will never die from the immorality in the world, or the corruption of those in power. But it will die from corrosion within—from those who bear the name of Jesus, and look like they are His, but have never entered into a personal relationship of LOVE with Him and they betray theirselves with their actions. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, 4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.
