Having grown tired of my life as a socially isolated, aging, single man, I began to look for a remedy by joining JDate, an online dating site. They ask a lot of questions so online browsers can decide if they want to initiate contact. I was asked to give a brief history of my life, and this is how I handled the challenge: "Without going into details, I will just say that I have managed to integrate the influences of an incredibly broad spectrum of diverse experience. These range from growing up in a cultured, affluent, highly achieving, Jewish family in small-town America, Ivy League education, youthful idealism and experimentation during the 1960s, raising my own family beginning in the late 1960s, making peace with mainstream America (as reflected in my membership in the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club during the 1980s and 90s, up to the tragic loss of a son in 2003. "I responded to the radical disruption of my life by reflecting deeply on what mattered to me, followed by moving to Israel, and finding teachers to guide me in intensive exploration of Torah. My life now is rooted in respect for a wide array of Jewish concerns, based on appreciating the significance of the Jews’ exodus from Egypt, diaspora, and return to the land that God gave us."
