Having listened to the varied complaints of many fellow artists, it seems that now is the time to create a New York City Artists Union so that the actual creators of New Yorks unique culture- which attracts tourists, gentrifies communities and generates money for others-can truly share in the bounty of New York Citys art scene. While arts alliances and organizations continue to have a role to play in the lives of artists, the fact remains that the bulk of monies generated by the artists hard work and oftentimes nose to the grindstone,obsessive dedication, unfairly winds up in the coffers of real estate concerns and arts administrations while the artist most likely receives an inherently inedible pat on the back or if lucky a picture in the Daily News.
