“Hawak kamay” train-riding style in PNR station draws mixed reactions The ‘bayanihan’ Filipino trait is still alive. One proof of this is shown on a viral video of commuters helping each other so they can ride the train at the Buendia-Dela Rosa Station of the Philippine National Railways (PNR). The video shared by When in Manila on the blog’s Facebook page shows how people had to board the train without a platform. So, many had to jump high to launch themselves inside the train while many had to be helped aboard, using what the YouTube video uploader Yenyr Defer as a “hawak kamay” train riding style. Both inspiring and depressing, the video shows how people are ready to help one another board the train – yet it also shows how hard these people had to try, a harsh reality of the state of our public transport options today. Many people are questioning why government officials have not acted on this, considering how dangerous it can be for these people to do this on a regular basis. Considering how the train’s floor is as high as chest or above-the-waist level for most of the commuters, it really is hard for them to go up. Aside from the high risk of falling down, they could also get hurt in the scramble to get up. Although there is a platform at the station, it is much shorter than it should be, so that many people had to try getting aboard using the unconventional way of jumping up on the doors that do not have platforms. The PNR is an old railways system still being used in Manila, yet it seems that the government has forgotten about this form of public transport. Still, the PNR is not the only train system experiencing lots of problems. These past weeks, we’ve heard a lot of news about trains breaking down and causing minor accidents in the LRT system. source: kickerdaily/hawak-kamay-train-riding-style-in-pnr-station-draws-mixed-reactions/ credits: https://youtube/watch?v=vrCNAEBB7No facebook/The3RDShifters
