Hazlet Township Police Department report CHILD SAFETY ALERT Yesterday afternoon at approximately 3:30PM on Monterey Drive a 10 year old was walking home from school. A vehicle driven by a white male pulled up next to the child and asked him if he wanted a ride. The child responded "No, you are a stranger" The vehicle then drove off. The incident was not reported to the Police Department until after 6:30PM last night. The vehicle involved is described as an older model 4 door light blue sedan. The driver is described as a white male, 40-55 years old, brownish-grey short hair, scruffy facial hair, and sunburned skin color. He was wearing a white tank top. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. The Police Department is actively investigating this incident. Extra patrols will be assigned to all school areas and the Board of Education has been advised and is working with us on this issue. If you were in the area of Monterey Drive yesterday afternoon and may have observed something that may help us, please call Police HQ at 732-264-6565. We ask that all parents review with their children the proper response in these situations. Obviously the child involved in this incident knew the correct thing to do when approached by a stranger.
