Hazmats Walking Dead Week In Review S4 E3 Hmmmmm. Odd episode this week. People were acting well out of established character but maybe thats because of the added pressure of a plague. You know, on top of the zombie apocalypse I mean. The Workings Of The Crew: So Tyreese shows Rick and Darryl the charred corpses of his (sort of) girlfriend and um ...that other guy. Tyresse gets all aggressive and violent with Rick and Darryl for no logical reason I can see, and BOTH of these guys go out of their way to give him a chance to cool his jets. When Tyreese becomes first aggressive with Rick (because he is upset? I guess?) you can see Darryl move up behind Tyreese and Rick motions Darryl off. Look, to have Darryl Dixon behind you is one of two things. A great advantage or a 100% death sentence. The guy is a killing machine. So then for NO REASON Tyreee turns on Darryl and goes after him and Darryl motions Rick off. But in the end Tyreese busts Rick in the face TWICE and Rick put the hurt on him for it. Tyreese needs to be thankful that Rick didnt just shoot him, and Tyreese deserved the ass whoopin he got. All that aside, the whole thing was just way out there for the character of Tyreese and what has been established in the last two seasons. He is the kindly man with a good heart that really doent want any trouble. Of all the people on the show he has one of the most solid moral compasses. I just dont buy this behavior from him. Carol: It turns out Carol killed the (sort of) girlfriend of Tyreese and that other guy who was sick. She murdered them before the plague actually killed them as they lay dieing, and then she drug them out back and burned the bodies. How do we know this? Well, Rick asked her if she did it and she simply said Yes and went about her business. My wife thinks this is a precursor to Tyreese killing her but I think when Carol dies the writers will give her a hero death. Im betting it will have something to do with saving children or something. Rick: Rick lost it for a minute. When he put the beat-down on Tyreese he just kept beating and beating Tyreese in the face even though Tyreese was down for the count. I believe Rick would have beaten Tyreese to death if Darryl had not pulled him off. Rick the bad ass is back. Carl: Carl and all the younglings are in a quarantine while the plague runs rampant. Except that Carl sneaks out with Doc Hershel to gather herbs. Glenn and Maggie: Glenn has caught the plague and is in the cell block set aside for the ill. He is basically waiting to die but Hershel has decided to go in and comfort the sick. A super bad choice seeing as the East Indian doctor (known as Doctor A? ...I guess. *shrug*) was already in the plague victim cell block and also sick. So if Hershel dies in there the survivors have only Bob the medic as a person with any viable medical training. Tyreeses sister (whatever her name is) also has come down with symptoms of the plague and is locked up in the death ward. As for Maggie herself, not much of her in this episode as she is mostly a vehicle for Glenn and he is down with illness. Darryl, Michonne, Bob and Tyreese all head for a veterinary school that Hershel told them about where antibiotics can be found. The only reason Tyreese went (after being asked to come along and refusing) is because now his sister Sasha is sick and locked up in the death ward. So they fuel-up a sedan and head out to the veterinary school running into a MASSIVE herd of walkers. The car is surrounded and the zombies are building up around the vehicle. Darryl is driving and backs up through the crowd but the car founders on the build-up of bodies. Darryl lays out a quick plan to brake free of the swarm by concentrating their force to the passenger side of the car and getting free of the area. So the whole crew burst into action! They explode from the car and cut a swath of death through the zombies to make for the nearby wood line. Everyone (even Bob who is not a born killer to say the least) get to work and make it to the woods as a group. Everyone that is, except Tyreese. Tyresse decides to sit in the back seat with the door open and close his eyes. Tyreese has given up. But wait! He decides to live and wades into the mob of walkers alone as the others of the team are already at the edge of the woods. He is doomed and that is that. The others look on and decide that there is no point in getting killed because Tyreese is a goner from sheer numbers anyway. So they make their way through the forest killing the odd walker here and there until a noise in the brush alerts them to approaching danger. Its Tyreese and he is still alive. I pulled a grimace at this. The fact is Tyreese should have died and only the writers going against their own suspended reality allowed him to live. It would have been better for Tyreese to die given the circumstances he was in rather than emerge as some impossible superman. Other Thoughts: Is there a thing starting between Darryl and Michonne? I swear there was a thing starting there. Did anyone else see it? Carl has come to grips and even embraced that there is no security in his world and he seems comfortable as he deals with what -is- at the moment. Cant blame the little guy but its a hard reality. I wish his father would show him more direct affection. I think Rick is failing in the father department here. And there it is. A fairly low action episode but it has set the stage for what I think will be a pretty tense installment next week. So Now What?: Rick needs to decide what he will do with the knowledge that Carol killed sick people before they were dead. will he tell Darryl? How will Darryl react to that given that he has sworn to put a bolt in whoever did it? Tyreese needs to decide if he wants to live or die now that some woman he made out with is dead and his sister is sick with what seems to be a 100% death rate illness. doc Hershel will get ill now Im sure and it will be a matter of if the team in the field can get the needed medications back to the prison and do it in time. Next To Die: Still going with Hershel because Ive got nothing much better right now. But Im putting Carol in as a hedged bet. Best Zombie Kill: There were some pretty awesome kills this week and Michonne has a technique I call topping where she lops off the top portion of a walkers head from the eyebrows up with a single blow. But I have to give best kill to Darryl this week. He backed a car up through a zombie mob and ended up with a mound of them under the back wheels as he spun out trying to get the car moving again. On walker in the wriggling mass even reached up and had its forearm ripped off by the spinning back wheel. Alright fellow fans, that it for this week. Be strong & Stay Safe, Hazmat Out.
