He always SHOWS OFF when he SHOWS UP in his new BMW Sunday Phrasal Verbs On Sundays, I like to CATCH UP ON all the chores, tasks and errands that I haven’t done during the week. I usually do laundry, mark papers, go to the supermarket, visit my mom and make some lesson plans. On Sunday evenings I like to watch some shows. I like to watch “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy”. Some other good Sunday night shows are “Walking Dead” and “Game of Thrones”. I was thinking about SHOWS so I thought I would SHOW you some phrasal verbs with the word SHOW. 1. SHOW UP- arrive/ be present Miguel and Michelle were a little disappointed because they invited 250 people to their wedding, but only 150 SHOWED UP. 2. SHOW OFF- boast It’s not an attractive quality when someone has expensive things and SHOWS OFF to everyone. You should be more modest. Don’t say, “Hey check out my new bag. It’s VERY expensive. It’s so amazing.” 3. SHOW THROUGH- something hidden becomes visible When Samuel broke up with me, he was acting like he was okay with the break-up, but his sadness WAS SHOWING THROUGH. There was a tear in his eye. 4. SHOW OUT- accompany a visitor to the door You have a small party at your place. When a friend comes to say bye, you say, “Oh, let me SHOW you OUT.” and you walk the person to the door. It’s polite and a nice way to send your guests home. Try it today: 1. Do you always SHOW UP to parties and dinners that you are invited to? 2. Do you know anyone who always SHOWS OFF? 3. When you have a party, do you usually SHOW your guests OUT? Why or why not?
