A local family doctor backed up Bourdain’s claims about prescription medication saying that, while there is no one place or person who holds all the blame, “there is an awful lot of money to be made by promoting the treatment of pain to the highest level … I was taught in residency you give people as much pain medicine as they need. You get them out of pain. We will judge your hospital, we’ll judge your emergency room, based on your pain scores.”
