Heartbreaking. I used to be bullied, on everything from being fat to being a brown moser to being called a lesbian as if it were a bad thing. One of my bullies had a parent on the PTA, and it was widely known he was a bully, but she was the kind of parent who would always deny it. Luckily for me, it was verbal and social, no form of physical abuse, but not everyone is that lucky. I dont give a damn if teachers overwhelmed, overworked, over-whatever. I am tired of this if it doesnt affect me, Im not getting involved bullshit. A teacher is more than someone who guided you through a book to learn stuff l, or babysit kids as they are increasingly criticized as. Teachers are meant to be models of behavior, and that includes doing the right thing and standing up for the weak and bullied. If you dont, you send the message to the bully that theyre behavior is okay, while simultaneously tell the bullied that theyre worth nothing. If you cant handle always trying to do the right thing, quit teaching!
