Heaven Hebrews 12:1 19 January 2015 Lonnie Jones Good Morning My Friends! Well, here it is Martin Luther King’s holiday, the 19th of January 2015, and even though it was a cool 25 as I walked Kiko, it is supposed to get back up past 50 today and tomorrow before possible snow comes in on Thursday. As I walked in my neighbor’s back 40 with Kiko, I kept looking up at the sky, at the stars and my thoughts went to Heaven, that place beyond the stars in another galaxy...in that place called Heaven that I spoke about some time ago. As I get older, my thoughts dwell on death and Heaven more and more, wondering what it will be like when I cross over. So as I sit down to pen this devotion, I found this piece that I had written 10 years ago. Here is what it says! This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Today is the 18th of January 2005, another day on earth and in heaven. I wonder what is happening in heaven. I pray that my mother, father, nephews Steve, Rickie, Jimmie, and two Sisters-In-Law, Judy and Kay are there. (And now my daughter Michele and oldest brother Eddie have joined the rest of my family already there.) Are they part of the great cloud of witnesses that the bible talks about in Hebrews 12:1, “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses?” Do you suppose that there is a hallelujah party going on? Or how about worshiping at the feet of Jesus day and night as His glory lights the heavenlies? I thing about Psalm 27:4, One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple.” Lord, will that promise be fulfilled for me! Wow! What a scene that must be! Sitting at His feet and praising Him day and night, my Lord of Lords and King of Kings. And…how about going into my own mansion that He has prepared for me as John 14:2 describes, “In my Fathers house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you.” Boy, how about having fellowship with Noah, Moses, Jeremiah, David, Mary, Esther, Ruth, Isaiah, Job, Paul, Peter and John! WOW! Won’t that be a great time of rejoicing and jubilation? The mind cannot imagine what heaven will be like. I can only imagine! There is no comparison to earth, since we will be spirits and not flesh and blood. Did people go to Heaven before Jesus? That is a great question in my mind! The Bible says that Enoch and Elijah both were caught up into the heavenlies. As we study the old testament, at the end of many of the Kings the bible states, “And they were laid to rest with there fathers”. Did they go to the heaven that Jesus has promised His followers? We won’t know until we get there, will we! So, today, we may as well enjoy this time on earth and continue to worship and glorify Jesus in every way that we can. It is selfishness that turns to pride, to greed, to lust and to sin that causes us to backslide and not be a witness for Jesus. So we must lay aside that old life and let the Holy Spirit take control. The question today is...when will heaven come my way or your way? Will it be now, today or 20 years from now? Only God the Father and His son, Jesus, know when that day and time is to be. Another question came to my mind! “Is my heavenly death Angel poised to come and get me?” Should I be concerned about it? Yes! I should be prepared to meet my maker as well as my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I should spend time everyday helping others, giving of myself, as Jesus gave of himself. I should spend more time in prayer, in His word, witnessing to people, loving people, particularly my family, who are the hardest to witness too. I should fast, if mentally and physically capable, whenever the Holy Spirit instructs me to. More importantly, I should always walk in the heavenlies, taking on the mind of Christ, dwelling on the things of Philippians 4:8 and doing those things I should always remember Colossians 3:2, which says “to think on the things above” and not on the things that are on earth. I should be thinking on the love, the compassion, of our Lord and Savior and try to emulate Him. I should practice His two commandants to love God and love one another. I should be a witness for him day in and day out in order to have the Heavenly Father say to me one day, “Well done my good and faithful servant.” So, as I come back to today, the 19th of January 2015, and think about what I wrote ten years agaon, my thoughts are the same as they were then, ten years ago when I wrote what you have just read. I need to prepare for Heaven because my days are getting shorter! Amen! Enjoy this holiday as you prepare for Heaven by being all you can be here on earth. In His Love Lonnie
