Hello CogBurners: Will post trail info as soon as reports come through. Hope this week brings us good news, Our current weather event has everyone guessing. In the meantime A funny quote that was overheard from some trail-builders: You cant get hurt in the air, but you cant stay there either ! Hit it first, then we can see where to put the landing (Brows#) OK so if your new to mountain biking and are not sure about all those pesky acronyms Here’s some help for when your ringing your cowbell and cheering on the riders at the Worlds in Cairns, so you wont feel like a total noob. Cross Country (XCO) O is for Olympics. XCO is the mountain bike discipline in the Olympic Games and is short (ish), sharp and sweet in a painful kind of way. An XCO course will be between 4km and 6km in length and depending on your category, you’ll race for between 60 and 90 minutes. That means ample opportunity to lose your legs, find them again, nail the tricky bits and enjoy the descents. Cross Country Eliminator (XCE) The smash fest for the sprinters who ride with their elbows out. XCE is a short course up to 1km in length. Riders race in groups of four and the first two go through. The course may include a range of natural and artificial obstacles or, in the case of Adelaide, be in the city. Cross Country Marathon (XCM) A cross country format event utilizing a point-to-point or three lap course of between 60 and 100km in length. Variations to course length may be allowed at the discretion of the event commissaire…like if it rains (pours) or is insanely hot. Downhill (DHI) DHI, the mighty DHI. You can race on any bike and it will be good for the skills. Pick a line and hope it’s a good one. The courses are between 1.5km and 3.5 km and you can generally rely on the shorter ones to be trickier. Total race time should be between two (Adelaide) and five minutes (Thredbo). ~ Download to see & send fun emoticons on Facebook ~
