Hello Ecogardeners! We hope youve had a great winter break, and that youre as excited for the new semester as we are! We wanted to let you know about a super awesome event being hosted by EcoHouse, EcoHusky, and Real Slow Foods in conjunction with the UConn Reads Program. The program, called Just Food! Or is it? will be from 6:30-8:30pm next Tuesday, Jan. 27 in the basement lounge in Sprague Hall. Here are the details: This event will focus on Chapter One of Michael Pollan’s Omnivore’s Dilemma – Corn. We will have 3 stations manned by 3 faculty members each representing one aspect that the corn based food system impacts: environment – Dr. Karl Guillard; society – Dr. Phoebe Godfrey; personal health/nutrition – Dr. Hedley Freake. We will have healthy and less healthy food choices for the students to try that fit with the themes of the discussions and demonstrate some of the ways the corn food system connects in their lives. In addition it will offer tips on how they can make positive changes in their eating habits utilizing options available at UConn. For those of you who havent read the UConn Reads book yet - Michael Pollans The Omnivores Dilemma - I highly recommend it! Its an easy read packed full of startling and important information about the American food system. A must read for anyone interested in sustainable agriculture and our food!
