Hello Everyone~ Luvable Dog Rescue here:) We are taking a moment to write to you all about a very sad and serious situation that is occurring regarding the transport of dogs from California to Oregon. Some of you may have seen and/or heard about these FOR PROFIT transports that charge ridiculous amounts of money per dog to transport them up the I-5 corridor to various rescues. These private transports are not regulated and are operating strictly for profit NOT FOR THE WELFARE OR RESCUE OF THE ANIMALS. As a result, there have been several horrible reports of animal abuse due to heat, poor conditions and even death. THIS HAS TO STOP!!!! Just to be clear, we want folks to know that we never KNOWINGLY use these transports. Luvable Dog Rescue is a 15 year old non-profit 501c3 dog shelter, and we have been getting dogs from shelters in Southern California for many years. Generally we get no more than 10-15 small dogs a month, plus a Pit Bull when we have room in our program for one. We use S.T.A.R.T. or a NOT FOR PROFIT private driver who uses his personal van, an air conditioned/heated Mercedes Sprinter, to bring up pups! They ride in crates right behind his seat and he stops to potty and walk them. S.T.A.R.T. is a non-profit group that is extremely careful about their transports. Out of concern for the dogs and to be absolutely sure that they are traveling in the most humane conditions possible, our group is researching vehicles and hope to buy our own van, designed specifically to transport dogs. Ideally, we would like to transport our dogs ourselves, with our own car and drivers, so we can be absolutely sure they are being cared for on the very long ride from California to Oregon. We are completely in support of shutting down private for-profit transporters if they are not providing humane care for the dogs. After what we have learned we will not let anyone send a dog to us via a private transport we cannot personally approve. Please help spread the word about these FOR PROFIT PRIVATE TRANSPORTS, practice due diligence and educate yourselves regarding the transport AND rescue you are working with to make sure they are a reputable organization.
