Hello. I am needing help with my game, Super Push Adventure. I recently moved the project from Game Maker 8.1 to Game Maker Studio in order to make the proper steps to making a professional game. Now, I have several errors due to code that worked in 8.1 no longer working in Studio, and I have no idea how to fix it. I also am unable to even test play my game until these issues are resolved. Another important issue here is that I really dont understand anything regarding how my games code works. If someone asked me, How did you get your key to unlock the door when it is pushed into it? My answer would be, ...I dunno. If someone asked me, How did you get the monkeys to walk on a predetermined path? My answer would be, ...I dunno. If someone asked me, How did you get objects that can be pushed to slide on the ice? My answer would be, Oh, I know how I did that! ...Psych! The problem here is that I dont really think making a game has been a learning experience. Ive been able to come up with ideas for obstacles in Super Push Adventure, and slowly add in suggested code to create such obstacles, and Ive been able to practice more level design, art design, music composition, and scenario design. However, I dont feel better as a game designer in general. It just makes me feel bad and like a failure that I havent learned anything about programming through all of this work. I come up with ideas, but essentially someone else implements them, despite their darndest to teach me. I know I dont want be a developer as a career (Id rather oversee projects, come up with level ideas and designs, music, etc.), but I feel its important to at least understand a little about how to do things like coding myself. Its just very deflating. I feel closer to the end of development of Super Push Adventure than I have been, and its annoying to be closer yet have a proverbial blockade staring me right in the face. Well, I just needed to let that out, and Im sure folks here understand my problems all too well. Just needed to share with like-minded individuals and the friends Ive made in this group.
