Hello. I am new to the group and happy to have found some people that can relate. I was diagnosed on May 1 2014. Woke up one Saturday morning with lower back pain. 2 hours later I could not walk up or down stairs without assistance. I had thought I slept wrong and tweaked my back. 4 days later I am in Omaha NE being admitted. ..an MRI found a spot in my lower back that they thought it was a tumor. The doctors stepped back and decided to do a spinal tap first. It came back as inflammation...I was dismissed a day later being told that the numbness would stay below my waist as that was were the inflammation was. Well...I could feel the numbness spreading up my body. It made it to my throat before it started to go away. I have type 1 diabetes so steroids were a very scary option for me. I ended up getting 3 IV steroid treatments and after a few weeks I was feeling better. I still have no feeling in my right thigh or right hand. This Sunday I woke up with horrible back pain again and walking has become difficult. :( I have been started on oral steroids today and see the doctor tomorrow. I am so scared it has flared up again. I miss walking and hiking for exercise. I know my case is not as bad as most...but I just need to lean on someone that has been through this. No one I know has ever heard of it and they look at me like I am crazy. The docs think I got it from having strep throat back in April. Has anyone had it come back?
