Hello beautiful community! For almost two decades, Dwinelle Hall - TopicsExpress

Hello beautiful community! For almost two decades, Dwinelle Hall has been utilized as an open floor, open community dance space for Cal students and community members to engage one another in the practice of all styles of dance: break-dancing, turfing, freestyling, locking. It is the birthplace of passion, the teacher of discipline, and the healer of many internal wounds. The space is a legacy in break-dancing history and has seen the likes of international breakers from Europe, Asia, South America grace the halls. It is a safehaven, and it is our home. Tonight, the bboys and bgirls of Dwinelle Hall were told to leave the space or be forcibly escorted out by UCPD. According to the building managers Pam Armstrong and Ruben Mejia, both of whom we have spoken to about this issue of space, an email was sent out to the new student task force that locks up Dwinelle Hall to use UCPD to kick us out if we refused to leave. Although, we are in contact with both of these individuals, we were not informed of such a ridiculously preposterous and incredibly insulting policy. They are insisting that we can no longer dance there and we can no longer use the space. This is absolutely ridiculous, and we REFUSE to back down from this fight. This space means the world to all of us and we cannot allow such a precious thing to be stolen from our community and extinguish the light of the many people that we know and love. CAL SUPPORTERS, WE NEED YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT. Join us in solidarity and get your professors, the faculty, and the realm of academia to endorse the dance community and the Dwinelle Hall Breakers so that we can reclaim the space! We are preparing an email template, so please, if you could send this to them, our entire community would appreciate it!!
