Hello, everyone. Wina here with quite grim but important things to talk about. 1. Not one to share Hozier songs because I am a selfish, selfish girl. But this is relevant now more than ever, with what happened at #CharlieHebdo. 2. I try to keep my low opinions of religion to myself because I know a lot of people who are religious, but here is what I dislike about it: religion inevitably divides people into us and them. It is the anti-empathy, and with 12 people dead despite all the trouble that everyone who writes and makes art and writes music goes through to reach out and convey empathy, I feel something must be said, even if only to 582 people, online. Religions (and religious people) need to learn to be critiqued--criticism is not a lack of feeling, or faith (the opposite, I feel). We all need to take some. 3. The point here is not just the religion in question (that would just be furthering the us/them mentality), or whatever faction did the shooting; the important thing is we have to be able to check ourselves and make sure that we are not being idiots. We have to re-evaluate our opinions, our biases, not to eliminate them but to ensure that they are correct, that they will help make the world a better place.
