Hello my friends, Thanks so much for your ongoing prayers and encouraging, positive, thoughts. You make a real difference in our lives and help Tina and I to get through each day. I read your comments and my spirits are lifted. Thank you. I get to work at an amazing place with some amazing people. We knew that todays meeting was going to reveal the course of action for the next several months so yesterday my boss strongly suggested I take a personal day so I could go with Tina to the appointment at the Cancer Clinic. Unfortunately, as expected, we didnt have a fairy tale ending to our story today. We set off for school fairly early and dropped the kids off. Nate was a bit of a stinker with the girls but they reigned him in while we went into Vancouver. Traffic was pretty light; the improvements to the HOV lane from Langley to Grandview/12th really ease the flow of traffic and we got to Tinas appointment with a few minutes to spare. The MD informed us that Tinas tumor markers have increased to 2900, nearly twice as much as they were are the beginning of December. and more than three times more than what they were earlier in the fall. This indicates that the tumors in Tinas body are still active and also confirmed the last scan which indicated some growth had occurred in tumors in and around Tinas liver and lymph nodes. The doctor has recommended that Tina start an oral chemotherapy for this upcoming round. This will decrease our reliance on drivers. Thanks so much for driving with Tina! It is expected that the chemo will cause dry skin and give Tina a sore mouth and Tina will need to visit the hospital once an month to have her port flushed to help maintain it but once a month at the Mission hospital is way easier than visiting Vancouver every two weeks. We finished the morning with trips to multiple pharmacies and, for the first time in ages, discussed end-of-life decisions. We talked about the importance of living an abundant life and how we probably shouldnt wait for remission before we pursue more adventures and fun family memories. Its strange to discuss death with such a vigorous, vibrant person but we find ourselves in unfortunate circumstances. We had a nice lunch at The Sushi Garden in Burnaby before we ran some errands to Bosas and the chocolate store and headed back to school to collect the kids. We will continue to choose to live a full and abundant life. I dont know why Tina and our family have been burdened with cancer but, in the end, it really doesnt matter. We have a road to walk and we will choose to walk it one day at a time, with as much joy as we can muster. I am looking forward to writing more updates about our further adventures :) All my love, Matt
