Hello ukulele tab likers. In the process of arranging some African thumb piano (mbira/kalimba/matepe/karimba) music for my latest album, I thought I would also tab it out for for a ukulele of my own design and tuning (a fan-fret steel-strung kabosy-bodied baritone I call the Orpharion) The results were so very enjoyable to play I thought I would share it with people who played the ukulele. Its for a linear-tuned uke, and the tuning is easily achievable with little intonation problems on any stringing - I play them everywhere on my Risa travel uke. Its in a tablature that is perfectly readable but a bit of a throw-back to the older Cittern and Vihuela tablature, which is what I originally learned on (and this was originally for my own consumption). But it is perfectly playable and by and large . Being somewhat obsessive, I have included notes on each piece and a bibliography and notes for further study in there too (everyone should have a kalimba AND a ukulele). Get the A4 booklet PDF here: mediafire/view/agaslbwbje9452o/AfricanUkuleleWeb.pdf The tablature was done in Lilypond, and as the program produces MIDI files I thought I should make them available as well: mediafire/download/t7hcsh3kxp7x7zk/AfricanUkuleleMidiFiles.zip If you want to hear a human playing the pieces, but not on a ukulele (on a Hohner Guitaret actually) they are on tracks 3,5,7 and 9 of this album here https://ivodnegalatea.bandcamp/album/equations-of-life https://soundcloud/ivodne-galatea/sets/equations-of-life Its completely free and copyleft, but if you want to express thanks, please make a small donation to MBIRA (the details are in the book) My Orpharion was made for me by Raulo Guitars in Puerto Rico — rauloguitars — and is indescribably wonderful to play.
