Help needed! In late 2013 a circa 1900 marine steam engine - TopicsExpress

Help needed! In late 2013 a circa 1900 marine steam engine built by Smith, Forrester & Co was offered at auction from a private collection. The auction was noted by a QMMA member and it was drawn to the attention of the Board and CEO. At that time we were in discussion with the Mechanical Engineering School from QUT on the subject of establishing a working engine exhibit at the Museum that would be used by university students and accessible to Museum visitors. QUT were hoping to secure external sponsorship for the project (which may still occur) and were very interested in incorporating the steam engine into the project. In the absence of confirmation from QUT the QMMA member attended the auction with a view to bid no more than $3k for the engine. It was passed in at auction with a reserve of $10k and the owner agreed to sell it to the QMMA member for $3k. The QMMA member has offered to donate $500 and we have received a donation of $100. We are seeking your support to raise the remaining $2400 to reimburse the QMMA member and retain the engine in the Museum’s collection. It is a rare example of a steam engine built in Brisbane for marine purposes. It is in working order. If we are unable to raise the funds the QMMA member is the owner and may have to sell the engine. All donations are tax deductible. If you would like to support this project to acquire this engine please advise the CEO (contact details are on our website at the link below). Thank you for your favourable consideration of this matter. maritimemuseum.au/donate.php
