The chosen name will be announced on Monday Feb. 10, 2014. Georgia – South Georgia is an island in the sub-Antarctica region inhabited by large gentoo colonies. Una – “Number One” in Latin; she was the first penguin to hatch at the Calgary Zoo. Ronne – An ice shelf in the Weddell Sea named after the first American woman, Edith Ronne, to set foot and winter at the South Pole. Hope – A bay in the Antarctic peninsula, where some gentoos can be found. Also, our chick hatched on July 7, 2013 just two weeks after the flood inspiring a hopeful flood recovery.
