Helping to lift the Veil of sadness. Eric Cleveland 4-Stroke National Motocross Professional rider Portland, Oregon Passed away October 2013 Motocross video: youtube/watch?v=tez4ncdWVxo Florence, Oregon riding the sand: youtube/watch?v=0knWfbCNZU4 When a person such as Eric Cleveland was diagnosed with cancer, it affected his whole family, co-workers and the motocross family of friends. As someone who has gone through the end-of-life care for others, it is a hard moment in time to reflect the wonderful days that I can remember him racing The 4-Stroke National Motocross Series across the United States and seeing his smiling face. This family of avid motocrosser’s have certainly lost one of our own the month of October 2013. My reflection of Eric comes during the early mornings of our 4-Stroke Nationals that took place on 108 weekends since 1999. Eric would push his steed to sign-up and tech inspection with a smile that always made me smile back. He was there, he was committed to racing with the finest competitors from around the world. He would place his bike on top one of one of the bike stands and head over to fill out the paper work, shake hands with my crew and share some of the familiar stores we all call bench racing. It was motocross at it’s finest. His wonderful demeanor was contagious for me. He always gave me a reason to be friendly to others. I can only keep trying to be like Eric in that way. He was a fierce competitor from the inside out, yet he was the happiest man on the planet. Whether he finished first in a moto or he finished last, it was all about the experience for Eric, a true man among men. I am proud to say what he gave to my events was more than I ever expected from any one person. He was cool, he was my friend, he was more to his family than I ever hope to be. He is deep in my heart. His “Celebration of Life” get together will be held on Saturday, November 2nd on the beach of Florence, Oregon. The place he loved to ride his dirt bikes in the wonder Oregon Dunes will be the place his family will spread his ashes. Assembly of family and friends will begin at 3:30 PM and conclude with a wonderful BBQ / Potluck feed. “Come share your stories and your love of riding at one of Erics favorite places to ride. We want motorcycles and ATV’s to line the ridge as far as the eye can see. Contact Darlene Cleveland, for more info, see you there! — at Florence Oregon Sand Dunes. thank God for his friendship. He will be truly missed. “Keep the rubber side down Eric, we will see you again one day as your riding on the Dunes in Heaven and on the best motocross tracks on the stars in the galaxy”.
