Her heart raced... A zillion thoughts ran through her mind. She clasped the handkerchief in her hand. Biting her lower lip, she reached out to her glass of chilled water. Gulping it down in quick successions, she chided herself, easy girl easy....dont let him see that you are tensed. Looking at the gentleman sitting besides her on the sofa on her living room, she cast her mind to the first time they had met. ********* Twelve years ago..... Ronke felt weird, being a new student in Gregorys High School. It looked and smelt much different than her former school. Its corridors were large with an even broader hallway. Its tiled floors were properly mopped that they seem to sparkle. The butter-coloured walls were graced with various works of art. Each classroom was distinctively marked and beautifully decorated. Everywhere smelt like fresh lemon unlike her former school that reeked heavily of disinfectant. The students here were more sophisticated and all came from extremely wealthy homes. Her friends had all congratulated her, telling her of how lucky she was to have gotten into such a prestigious school on scholarship, they had even begged her not to forget them when she started making new friends that were rich. If only they knew that these rich kids were great snobs and thought of her as inferior since she did not belong to their class. She had been here for 4 days and not even one person had smiled at her. She braced herself for the long solitary journey ahead and headed for the library which ironically seemed to be the only place where she felt accepted. So engrossed was she in thought that she did not see the person coming towards her in a hurry. GBAM! They bumped into each other and the books she held went in different directions. They both knelt to pick up the books amidst his consistent I am so sorry. She said nothing. As she stood, her eyes rested on the badge he wore on his chest which read SENIOR PREFECT. She swallowed saliva hard. She was just a second year student and he was a final year student! She should be the one apologising. Senior, I am sorry too. I should have been mindful of where I was going. Please forgive me, she said with fear in her voice (In her former school, seniors, especially the prefects, were treated and feared like gods, and they wielded great power over all students) He laughed, Senior?, he asked incredulously, We dont use such words here. You must be a new student She smiled nervously, Yes...I am on scholarship here Wow... Thats great. I am also on scholarship... How else could I have afforded such exorbitant school fees? How much does my father make? , he asked. They both laughed. I am Adedapo, he said with a very warm welcoming smile. Ronke. They shook hands. That was the start of a great friendship. *********** Present day..... Dapo had always been like an elder brother to her over the years. He was her closest friend. They had shared secrets, gone through good and bad times together. But today seemed different.. His words this afternoon were, Ronke, I really want to settle down....but I want no other woman but you. No other woman knows me as you do. Besides, I am not comfortable with any other besides you. I have fallen in love with you,Ronke. Make a honest man out of me.....would you be my wife..? She was stunned....and speechless. She had not expected this but she could not deny that she already gotten accustomed to being with him. She was scared and excited. While she drank the water, she looked at him again. He just stared back expectantly. In a flash, all her moments with this man rushed through her mind. He was not perfect but he was a good soul. Yes...I would marry you, she smiled. He grinned from ear to ear. ******* Some months later.... Standing before the priest in a dazzling white gown, she thought of the priests question. Replying in the affirmative would seal her fate. She had not personally met his family overseas, she wondered how they would treat her. She wondered what marital life would be with Dapo. She wondered what their new home overseas looked like. Whilst this was going on in her mind, she stole a glance at the groom. She may not have the answers to these thoughts but she knew Dapo, he always had the best for her. During their brief courtship, he had shown her intense love and care, paying attention to every little detail. Looking into his eyes, she knew she could trust this man. I do.., she said at last. By the the syr power invested in me, I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride, the priest said. ******** Interesting story, isnt it? But this is my story and the story of many others like me. From the time we came to earth, we have had a knowledge of GOD and HIS Precious SON, JESUS CHRIST, from our parents, churches, in the streets and everywhere, just as Ronke had known Adedapo for 12 years. But it was only when we gave our lives to CHRIST that we truly knew HIM and THE FATHER, GOD ALMIGHTY, just as Ronke did when she accepted the marriage proposal and entered into courtship with Adedapo. My friends, brothers and sisters, we are in courtship with CHRIST...remain true to HIM so that we would be the ready Bride at the MARRIAGE SUPPER OF THE LAMB. Just like Ronke, you may be wondering what Heaven would be like. My advice: calm down....CHRIST who loves You can be trusted to take good care of You, HIS BRIDE. All you need to do is it to Trust and Follow HIM.
