Herbicide may not have been the only factor in the Manteno fish - TopicsExpress

Herbicide may not have been the only factor in the Manteno fish kill. Fluctuating temperatures over the summer could have also played a role. A summer kill is very common in old, shallow, fertile ponds, lakes, a spokesman for the DNR told The Daily Journal. Typically, the pond owner has no problem, goes to bed some July, early September night and awakes to find dead or dying fish in his pond. Low oxygen kills the largest fish first, since they require more oxygen per body mass than smaller fish.
